The Springs Motel opened in 1952 on a stretch of Route 7 between Williamstown and Pittsfield, and for five decades it was the kind of place people in the northern Berkshires remembered. The Springs Restaurant on the property drew guests from across western Massachusetts for nearly seventy years before closing in 2002, and the motel eventually went quiet along with it. Lindsey Kurowski bought it in July 2021 for $833,000 and brought it back. Kurowski grew up in Cheshire, Massachusetts, twenty minutes from this building. She owns Knotty Pine, a design and build studio in Los Angeles whose clients include Nike, Spotify, and Adidas. She renovated rooms and cabins in 1960s mid-century design rooted in what the Springs looked like when it first opened. The renovation was documented on the Magnolia Network's 'Inn the Works.' The Springs is also listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

The Springs is one of the very few places in the Berkshires where you can stay in a restored mid-century motor court that was actually built here, looks like it belongs here, and was restored by someone who grew up near it. The design is not borrowed from another era or another place. Lindsey Kurowski specifically designed the renovation around what the Springs looked like during its 1960s heyday in the northern Berkshires, and the kidney-shaped pool, the vintage trailer bar, and the globe lights that have been in place since 1952 are proof of that intention. The Room

Motel rooms, cabins, and a honeymoon suite, each individually furnished and restored in mid-century design: vintage refrigerators, retro wallpaper, globe lights, coffee makers, TVs, and air conditioning. Every room opens directly to the exterior, with a balcony or patio facing either the mountains or the property grounds. The cabins come with full kitchens, multiple bedrooms, and their own private outdoor space. The honeymoon suite offers a separate sitting room. Beds are consistently praised across reviews for genuine comfort. Rooms are on the smaller side, as a mid-century motor court room should be.

The Grounds

Nine acres of private grounds set against the northern Berkshires ridgeline, with the property's own natural spring water running through it. The front parking lot of the original motel was converted into a wide open lawn: fire pits, lawn games, barbecue grills, and the vintage trailer bar illuminated by the original globe lights from the 1952 opening. The kidney-shaped pool, restored in 1960s style with its original dimensions, opens seasonally. A trail at the back of the property connects directly to snowmobile Trail 90 in winter, and to hiking in every other season. Truck and trailer parking is available on-site. Free parking throughout.

The Experience

The Springs runs at its own pace. The lobby bar, with its wood-burning fireplace and retro furnishings, is where the day ends. The lawn in front is where it starts with coffee and conversation before hiking. driving to MassMOCA, or leaf-peeping up Route 7 toward Williamstown. Owner Brian Duke and his team are present and engaged in a way that guests consistently notice and mention by name. On weekends a simple continental breakfast is laid out: yogurt, fresh fruit, muffins. The Old Forge restaurant is eight minutes away when dinner calls for a table.
