About Rockwood Motor Court
Rockwood Motor Court has welcomed travelers on Route 66 since 1929, making it the oldest continuously operating motor court on the Mother Road. The property was built from Ozark sandstone and red brick, with the stone's distinctive wood-grain pattern inspiring the Rockwood name. The original cabins, Shell filling station, single-car garage, and cafe buildings are all still on the property, six structures that have outlasted virtually every other motor court built during the same era. In 2025, Rockwood was inducted into Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Phyllis and Tim own and operate the court and live on site. The 2019 renovation kept the original footprint and character intact while updating the practical amenities.
