About Ranch Motel
The Ranch Motel has been on this corner of Broadway since 1948. It spent its later years in disrepair until 2021, when Jayson Seidman drove by, saw the for-sale sign, and called his team. Seidman is the founder of Sandstone, the independent hospitality group behind Thunderbird Hotel in Marfa and Hotel Saint Vincent in New Orleans. He purchased the adjacent one-acre former Kiddie Park property and converted it into the Leisure Club grounds. The renovation was completed in 2023 with San Antonio architect Evan Morris. The material choice anchors the property to the city: D'Hanis brick, produced at a Texas brickworks since the 1800s, runs through San Antonio's landmark buildings including the Historic Pearl Brewery. The hand-painted porcelain room numbers stayed. The original neon sign, lit up again.

Standard rooms have Thuma beds, Parachute linens, and Le Labo bath amenities in spaces that keep the 1948 motor court proportions: not large, but considered. The original arched ceilings and scalloped desk nooks were preserved as found. Concrete floors throughout. No TV and no minifridge in standard rooms; that's a deliberate call that sends you out to the courtyard, the bar, and the surrounding neighborhood when you're awake. A suite is available for those wanting more space. The complimentary in-room snacks and drinks welcome you on arrival: the bodega in the lobby keeps wine, beer, and canned cocktails stocked for anytime self-service.
The Grounds
What was the motel parking lot is now a native Texas garden: jasmine, desert grass, bamboo, oak trees, flowering sage, centered on a heated in-ground pool. The plantings connect visually to Brackenridge Park, which backs the property. A two-story building beside the pool houses the mezcal lounge on the ground level and the HiFi listening room upstairs, stocked with Latin, French, and Japanese vinyl and programmed with live music. The pickleball courts, game room, and day pass access to all of it are open to anyone: guests, locals, and neighbors. The neon sign on Broadway is original, re-lit.
The Experience
The mornings here belong to the garden. Coffee arrives in the room compliments of the property; outside, the courtyard is full of what Seidman planted: native Texas species that attract butterflies and do well in the San Antonio heat. Guests who stay more than one night tend to find a rhythm: pool in the afternoon, mezcal lounge in the evening, the Pearl District or Alamo Heights for dinner, both within a few minutes by car. The property's character draws a mix of travelers and San Antonio regulars who joined the Leisure Club: which means on a weekend afternoon, you might be poolside with people who live here, which is not the worst thing.
