The name comes from Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage, published in 1912 and set in the canyon country of southern Utah, the same landscape visible from the property's windows. Panguitch is a 19th-century Mormon pioneer town at 6,600 feet in Garfield County, sitting on US-89 between the Bryce Canyon entrance 24 miles northeast and the roads south toward Zion National Park. Red Canyon
