About Pioneer Inn Downtown
The Pioneer Inn has been welcoming travelers to Homer for nearly sixty years, passing through three Homer families along the way. Lila and Nate Johnson, the current owners, took it over in 2015. Lila teaches elementary school and fishes Bristol Bay each summer; Nate works as an oilfield electrician and commercial fisherman. Both were born in Homer and are raising their four children here. The rooms sit on W Pioneer Ave directly across from Kachemak Bay, with most looking out at the glaciers and Kenai Mountains. The Pratt Museum, one of the finest small natural history museums in Alaska, is directly next door. Homer is the self-styled arts capital of Alaska, with galleries, the Bunnell Street Arts Center, and a small boat harbor six minutes by car.
