About Obertal Inn
Hans Mulders earned a hotel management degree and spent three decades running luxury resorts in Europe and the United States before deciding, at 52, to do something different. He and his wife Andrea purchased the Obertal Inn in 2010 with their life savings, moved to Leavenworth, and began a sustained investment program that has now exceeded $6.4 million in upgrades and property expansion. Hans raises staff wages annually and provides 401(k) matching and PTO. Their daughter Anneke also lives in Leavenworth. Leavenworth's Bavarian identity is not theme park decoration. In 1962, the town formed Project LIFE with the University of Washington, and Seattle businessmen led a systematic architectural transformation beginning in 1965.
