About El Pueblo Lodge
El Pueblo Lodge has been at 412 North Pueblo Road in Taos since 1912. The original adobe construction is still the building here: thick walls, rounded contours, exposed vigas, and kiva fireplaces in select rooms that warm the space in ways forced-air systems do not replicate. Alta Hotel Group manages the lodge today. The building sits adjacent to Kit Carson Park in central Taos, within walking distance of the Taos Plaza. Two miles up the road, Taos Pueblo is the reason all of this exists: the oldest continuously inhabited community in North America, and the origin of the architectural vocabulary the entire region still speaks.

The Experience
Staying at El Pueblo means having the right relationship to Taos: a base that earns the town's pace rather than working against it. Morning hot breakfast, then the 11-minute walk to the plaza, then Taos Pueblo two miles north on the same road the lodge fronts. The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is eight miles west when the landscape calls for scale. The Millicent Rogers Museum is a mile north. In the evening, the kiva fireplace in the Casita rooms changes the calculus: it is cold enough in Taos most of the year that a wood-burning fire is not decorative but genuinely useful.

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge

One of the highest highway bridges in the United States, crossing 800 feet above the Rio Grande where the river cuts through the Taos Plateau. The view down into the gorge and west across the volcanic landscape to the distant plateaus is one of the more arresting roadside experiences in New Mexico. The bridge carries US-64 across the gorge on the road to Tres Piedras.
