Casa Cody is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Palm Springs, founded in the 1920s by Harriet Cody, a Philadelphia-born pioneer and cousin to Buffalo Bill who ran the area's first riding stable before turning to hospitality. Its oldest structure, the Adobe House, dates to 1910 and once sheltered the piano of Metropolitan Opera baritone Lawrence Tibbett. Charlie Chaplin and Anais Nin passed through. The city designated it a Class 1 Historic Site in 2008. Today it is stewarded by the Casetta Group, whose restoration layered dark woods, Zellige tile, burnished metals, and rich hunter green and burnt orange into the studios, suites, and stand-alone casitas. Set in the heart of downtown within sight of the San Jacinto Mountains, it holds a hundred years of history without feeling like a museum.
